Intermediate Courses - Student Feedback

Intermediate Course Brighton, Summer 2011

The standard of teaching was high in terms of rapport with students, professionalism, team work with 2 teachers, fun and encouragement. Everyone should do this type of thing. It's brilliant.
Fran Kissing, Intermediate Summer 2011

The course has enabled me to meet lots of really lovely people and I now improvise 2-3 times a week. Its really good and addictive - a bit like smack without the negatives! The Maydays don't just train you in improv, they also train you to perform and compere your own show - brilliant! Rebecca and Liz were brilliant and got us to really push ourselves. Above all it was just lots of fun!
Chris Emerson, Intermediate Summer 2011

The best course I have ever done. Made great friends, had so many laughs. Wednesday is the best day of the week!
Dave Hartley, Intermediate Summer 2011

It has been a fabulous 10 weeks. A fantastic opportunity to have fun, be creative and let your inner child escape. I have made some amazing friends. I feel more confident in performing and the constructive feedback has really helped. The course has helped with presentation and workshop skills. I generally feel more confident.
Helen Ball, Intermediate Summer 2011

A weekly pump of comedy is extremely addictive. It has given me more confidence, improved my presentation abilities. Its permission to be spontaneous and stupid without drugs.
Ric Morris, Intermediate Summer 2011

Lots of fun. More confidence, more skills in managing difficult situations. A great course.
Anna Stratford, Intermediate Summer 2011

Just do it! You'll learn a lot about yourself. More confidence, fun, open-ness with people.
Emma Castiel, Intermediate Summer 2011

It benefits everyone and teaches you to be in the moment. It is so much fun. I am much more confident and assertive, take more risks and push myself. I enjoyed everything on the course.
Alex Jones, Intermediate Summer 2011

Intermediate Course, Lewes Summer 2011

The parts I found particularly amusing included the novel games, the exciting teachers and much more! It is really fun!
Harrison P-B, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

A range of exercises so always something to both challenge and enjoy or both! Lots of personal applications and exercises I can use and adapt with clients. A blast!
Kevin Cherry, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

A nice light evening every week with lovely people. Jolly good, a real high and so much better than 'choir'. Musical improv was just exquisite.
Sarah Pickthall, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

The foundation course gave me a great foundation to build on. This intermediate level course delivered the right amount of discipline, structure, support and fun! It has undoubtedly given me tools that I am using in my family and working life (and games I get friends to do!) No matter where you are in life, what you do or where you're heading - a Maydays course will enhance your life and inject sheer fun and thrills into it!
Marcus Hicks, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

The games are fab! Its fun. If you don't do it you miss out.
Harvey Cash, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

I loved all of it. But also did things I never thought I could in the singing improv - including and not only singing. Made me less nervous and gave me faith in myself that I would think of something when I stood up - the art of the spontaneous. Forcing yourself out of your comfort zone gives you confidence and it is done in such a supportive environment that you can do it.
Vera G, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

Delight and energy from Maydays pulled us out to evenings of merriment and inspiration. Heather, Rebecca, Joe and Liz are super special committed people. I love to see the layers unpeel and feel content knowing that there are lots and lots more layers to come. Numerous benefits beyond. I feel at squirmy moments at work, my inner rascal telling me it's really not as serious a problem as I think. Then I relax. A patch of light in our heavy serious lives that derives from very serious attention to excellence.
Catriona Shepherd, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

The best massage your ego can ever have. I've found the course to be tremendous fun, but challenging in an excellent way. The teachers are enormously competent and supportive. The challenges set are realistic and entertaining and the teachers ensure that you gain confidence as you progress through the course. You never feel that failure is an option on this course. The mood - always ably conveyed - is determinedly positive and this is infectious, the team catch it and everyone feels great about themselves and fellow performers. Its tremendously egalitarian, a complete contrast to the clashing egos of conventional theatre.
Nick Cooper, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

Its the highlight of my week.
Toby, Lewes Intermediate Summer 2011

Intermediate Course January-March 2011

Receiving the limelight and adoration that I did when the course instructors changed me from an un-funny bum into a comedy genius was a real highlight of my course, as well as getting me over stage fright and giving me the realisation that failure doesn’t matter.
Rus Hughes, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

Do this course – It’s addictive.  Beyond just improv comedy it has helped me find confidence and creativity.
Gareth Owen-Williams, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

It has pushed me way beyond my comfort zone and given me the opportunity to direct others and act alone in a ‘budget’ scene.  It has also given me space to feel the fear and improvise in a fun way – this is turn has made me happier.  Just take the plunge, try it and you’ll love it!
Chloe Foster, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

I loved practising with fellow improvisers and all the tutors gave great pointers to help improve our performance.  I think if you have the confidence to complete the first performance then this will develop you further – I wouldn’t change anything about the course.  All good.
David Moon, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

I loved all the games, character improv and how quickly I felt comfortable around a complete bunch of strangers.  It has definitely improved my confidence further and my awareness of the power of ‘yes’ and this has spilled over into my personal and professional life.
Harry Johns, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

I enjoyed the camaraderie of strangers all being free to be ridiculous and doing stuff I wasn't sure I was capable of. Yes Sirreee Bob! The course has given me experience, loads of tips and learning from other punters doing it. Beyond comedy it has released more confidence and creativity. Do it. It's the funniest thing you'll do all week.
Lionel Clark, Intermediate Course January-March 2011

I enjoyed the opportunity to direct scenes and the show-case was definitely the highlight for me. More generally, I loved the opportunity to meet and play game with a great team of like-minded people.It’s given me the confidence to stand in front of an audience and introduce and direct scenes. I actually enjoyed it. It’s given me more confidence to express myself in front of others. I’ve noticed I am now more creative in my thinking. You will enjoy it more than you can imagine.
Karim Ahmed, Intermediate Course  January-March 2011

Intermediate Course October-December

This is the closest I can imagine to playing like children, as adults. I feel more comfortable now about making spontaneous mistakes. When the group "clicks" it's a great high; you are no longer in your own mind but feel as though you are part of something bigger - ecstatic! Both Heather and Rebecca are excellent tutors - I haven't had this much fun in ages.
Berkan Eskikaya, Intermediate Course October - December 2010

The highlights for me were getting out of my comfort zone and knowing I have achieved something most people wouldn't have the balls to do! Every lesson made me more confident - improv is totally outside my comfort zone and makes other challenging social situations seem like a walk in the park.
Dave Clarke, Intermediate Course October - December 2010

I particularly enjoyed the sense of us coming together as a team. I have also really enjoyed the social scene that's part of the course.
Simon Brett, Intermediate Course October - December 2010

I loved that the course challenged me and forced me out of my comfort zone. It has taught me that anything is possible!! It's been a bit of a struggle at times but that is part of the learning curve.
Ellen De Vries, Intermediate Course October - December 2010

Intermediate Course January-March 2010

I found directing a real challenge, but it was a good challenge. I really enjoyed learning about directing improv and the focused teaching that the course provided.  I now feel able to guide a performance as a director, and be funny! I wouldn’t change anything about this course, it’s awesome!
Andy Jackson, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

I thought the laughter, fun and spontaneity, people and the tutors were brilliant! The course has given me confidence to “play” and make mistakes, building rapport with other performers.  The course reminded me how much I like performing. If you are thinking about doing this course, just do it!
Steve Hearsum, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The highlight for me was all of it and everyone - it definitely raised my confidence. Do it!
Rex Brangwin, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The highlight?  Laughing all the time – the course definitely helped my stage confidence and I see the world with whole new eyes. Do it! Do it now! This course rules!
Alex Uren, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

Always a good laugh: loved the singing, the character work…so much! I’m more aware in terms of improv but also have nice new friends! Lots of fun.
Liz Peters, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The highlight for me was spending time with such wonderful people. I can now hold over my mates’ heads the fact that they paid to see me perform! For me this is an outlet for my insanity making me less likely to lose it and commit suicide. To someone thinking of doing this course I’d say become a Buddhist first and you’ll get a discount, or, you’ll never surpass me! If I’d change one thing it would be that it would be better done naked.
Joe Payne, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The individual tuition is great, also doing improve to music and limericks. I’ve really appreciated the practice this has given me and the ability to work with new group members. I’ve improved my rhyming, confidence, nonchalance, and ability to rhyme with nonchalant confidence.
Eliza St. John, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The highlight for me was the week we did music. Try this course…you might like it!
Allan Goodey, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The best bit was having such a laff!
Jolyon Hammond, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

The lessons were great and it was good that it was leading to a performance at the end. The course definitely helped me believe I could do it, and beyond comedy it’s helped me believe I don’t need to prepare for every occasion. It’s two hours of pure laughter every week – I wouldn’t change anything about it.
Paolo Oprandi, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

I really enjoyed meeting nice (if crazy) people on the course and now feel I can see the world through new eyes – Comedy is everywhere!  I'd definitely tell a friend to do it, but would encourage them to listen and not just think it’s a laugh, as the instructors have some really good points.
Rachel Denyer, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

It was great, really enjoyable.  The teachers gave really good feedback and introduced us to the ‘wider world’ of improv techniques.  I’d tell anyone to just go for it with choosing this course.  It helped to build my confidence in some situations, and a major benefit has been the entertaining look of horror on friends’ faces on describing some of the scenes we acted out!
Lucy Macnamara, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

I enjoyed all of it really – especially learning new games and having the chance to learn to how to direct a little bit.  I certainly feel more confident the more practice I get and doing this course every week has made me realise just how boring my job is and has made me consider not doing it anymore!
Tom Payne, Intermediate Course January-March 2010

Intermediate Course May – July 2009

Do this course! It will change your life. Really.
The best bit was the continued group vibe, getting to know everyone better and trying things that are a little more challenging. The funniest moments were being a chicken and the other people on the course.  I really loved it, and don’t want it to end. You’ve turned me into an improv junkie when I never thought I would be one!
Théa Anderson, Intermediate Course May-July 2009

What did I get out of it? Fun, escapism, and I loved the team! If you are thinking of doing this course, feel the fear and do it anyway…it’s great for personal development.
Alexandra, Intermediate Course May-July 2009

This is two hours per week that allows you to totally live in the now.
Peyman Shemeli, Intermediate Course May-July 2009

Great course, I have recommended it to friends.
Robert Knowles, Intermediate Course May-July 2009

This course will tell you who you are. I shall definitely continue to pursue improv – It’s the bomb!
Simon Topping, Intermediate Course May-July 2009

This course has given me a greater awareness of my ability to be confident about improv, performance and training.  It’s a challenge but there are so many bits I loved about the course, including the short form, the teachers and ALL the funny moments.
Colin, Intermediate Course May-July 2009
