Business Improv courses for soft skills training

Soft Skills are the qualities that allow us to communicate and interact with other people more effectively.  They include:

  • Communication
  • Listening
  • Flexibility
  • Creativity
  • Negotiation

Soft skills are crucial to our interaction with other people.  You may have all the knowledge and expertise in the world, but if you cannot communicate it effectively, or manage people well, you will fall behind the competition.  In the super-connected, tech based communication world we live in, it is more important than ever to make real connections with real people.  We have worked with teams that work remotely, making sure that the precious time they do have together is used as well as possible.  For us that means creating memorable interactions, playing, laughing and learning.  It may be only a day a year that your people get to see each other in person so why waste time with old and tired ice-breakers and awkward exercises when Improv Training can deliver such a rich and diverse experience?

The benefits of our Improv for Soft Skills Courses

Connection is what Improv and Improv Training is centred around.  Learning when and how to lead and follow.  How to listen and be heard, when to take risks and when to be vulnerable.  Some people are naturally better communicators than others, but the good news is that improv can improve our soft skills whoever we are, supporting and encouraging the more introverted, and challenging the super-confident to listen more and be part of a team.

Soft Skills can be difficult to pinpoint and really hone.  Improv Training gives us the opportunity to practise being in certain situations, talking to different types of people and exploring aspects of our own personalities that we can often ignore.  This can all happen in a safe space where you cannot get anything wrong, where the only way to fail is not to join in.

The Maydays Improv for Soft Skills Courses

We can tailor our improv courses around your needs so you can really hone a particular skill or quality that needs a boost.  We also have some formats that we have specifically designed to target some of the most common soft skills.  Here are our most popular improv for soft skills courses.

There are times when we need to shut off our inner critic, and our cynicism, and just build some ideas and concepts afresh, without limiting ourselves to the usual boundaries of sense, physics and economics.  It may be that all of these ideas are rejected, but every now and again you will get to a new, innovative idea that would normally have been shut down at the germinal stage.  Improv Training will directly teach you techniques to allow ideas to grow individually, and as part of a team.  Find out more about Improv Courses for Creativity and Innovation here…

A woman's face in front of a spiral pattern

It is natural for us to find shortcuts, habits and patterns that lighten the load on our brain for tasks we are faced with every day.  This includes our interactions with other people, and we can find that fall into roles that vary greatly from person to person.  Improv training allows us to effortlessly break these habits and inhabit other aspects of our personalities that would normally reaming stubbornly in the box.  Just be prepared that they may not want to go back in afterwards!  Find out more about Improv Training for Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence here…

Sometimes we all need a little help to feel good about where we are, who we work with and what we do.   Many more traditional training formats can play into our existing insecurities and allow us to just pick the tasks or behaviours that we are most comfortable with.  That is not the way to stay engaged with what we are doing whether it be at work, or in our social lives.  This is a great re-energiser which is full of positivity and energy.  Find out more about Improv Training for Engagement at Work here…

A circle of hands and feet from above

It is often the moments of individual brilliance that are celebrated in sport, politics and the arts. As we all know however, that is just a tiny snapshot of a story that involves a team of people and support.  A cohesive team will work together to support each other, know instinctively when to lead, follow, say yes and say no.  When you need ideas and when you need solutions.  Improv training lets you experience any situation as an individual and as a team.  In the right supportive environment that we create, you will feel more connected and more trusted by your team.  Find out more about Improv Courses for Group Dynamics here…

Improv and public speaking are very closely linked.  All of our conversations are improvised, and any attempt to stick to a script in a meeting is doomed the moment something unexpected happens. Improvisation also unites a group fast and gets them listening and responding in the moment. Great for getting all the pitch team on the same page, working as one and outshining the competition.  Find out more about Improv Courses for Pitches and Presentations here.
