‘IN REAL LIFE’ Level 1 of The Maydays shortform improvised comedy courses – CPD Accredited.

About this Event

Unleash your creative potential and increase your confidence with improvised comedy IN REAL LIFE! Great for all levels and abilities, improv uses no scripts or prepared material. Comedy is created in the moment: a playful and liberating experience, which is both very funny and helpful for overcoming creative blocks.

What can I expect?

  • Fun group warm-up games
  • An introduction to the principles of improv (listening and saying yes)
  • Practice exercises in pairs and in groups
  • An opportunity to play ‘Whose line is it anyway’ shortform improv games in front of the group

Who is this course suitable for?

  • Adults aged 18 – 100.
  • All levels and abilities. Beginners are very welcome.
  • Stand-up comedians, anyone wanting to get into comedy for the first time.
  • Any human wishing to try improv for the first time or needing a refresher.

Min. participants 8, Max. 12.

If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do this with 24hours notice (and you will receive a warning 48 hours before the course if this looks likely).

If due to covid we can’t run these classes in person, before or during the course, then we will move them online in our improv zoom rooms, with no refunds or credits in this instance.

Improv Facilitator:

The Maydays, Jenny Rowe, trained at ACT Brighton and has regularly taught there, as well as Brighton ICT, Chichester Festival Theatre LEAP programme and for Refugee Radio. Her credits include dreamthinkspeak (Underground) and Brighton Fringe ’19 Best Play winner, Clean. She has toured with The Foundry Group, played in the Shakespeare’s Globe ‘Read Not Dead’ season and performed numerous Shakespeares at Brighton Open Air Theatre. She is an actor, voiceover artist, writer and teacher, having worked with the BAFTA-nominated Treason Show Productions and, as a hula-hooping, crash-helmet-wearing starlet walkabout act for Twisted Dreams street theatre.
