Three Forms: The Deconstruction, Documentary, and The Living Room
About this Event
Work with three different instructors to explore three dynamic forms.
The Deconstruction with Jules Munns: A form where a single longer scene is ‘deconstructed’ with shorter unrelated scenes which expand and comment on it. In this section, you will work on having a clear point of view in a scene, changing the ‘gear’ between the base scene and using a scene to prove something about the world. Oh, and just having fun with a dumb accident.
Documentary with Jenny Rowe: Inspired by the UCB long form, created by Billy Merritt, where you introduce the main and peripheral characters of an event in a documentary style. This course will use this structure as a starting point and explore variations suited to an online format in order to make it our own.
The Living Room with Juwel Haque: A form that combines easy, relaxed conversation with sharp, premise-led scenes, this is an opportunity to practise deliberately changing the rhythm and energy of your play and find the ridiculous in the mundane. In this form, the improvisers chat between themselves about their lives, then, when they are inspired, spontaneously leap into a scene, unpacking, deconstructing and playing with what was just discussed.
Participants will leave the course with everything they need to take these forms and incorporate them into their own virtual and in-person performances.
Min. participants 6, max. participants 12. If we have to cancel the event due to low numbers, we will do this with 24 hours notice.
Jules Munns performs with the Maydays and Impromptu Shakespeare, as well as being one-half of Ten Thousand Million Love Stories. He has performed and taught across the world, from Finland to Pakistan, Malawi to Canada. He creates improv blogs and podcasts and performs online for the Nursery.
