Three Genres Improv Course

Three Genres Improv Course

Three Genres: Wes Anderson, Bollywood and Ancient Greek Drama. With Jonah Fazel & Waleed Akhtar

About this Event

In this 6 week course co-taught by Jonah Fazel & Waleed Akhtar, you will play within the Stylised nostalgia of a visually stunning but melancholic Wes Anderson movie, work with the societally relevant and moralistic themes of ancient Greek Tragedy. Plus- It’s glitz, it’s glamour, high drama… It’s BOLLYWOOD!! Get all the joy of playing big outrageous fun characters, and exploring the dynamics of an Asian family with none of the long term scarring or therapy bills.

You will expand on your knowledge of working with genres as experienced in the Principles of Genre Course and feel ready to develop your own show, audition for a genre-based team or just simply smash that short-form genre audience suggestion.

With some customised and new exercises original to this course, you’ll examine this term’s genres in an environment with players at a similar experience level and be provided with a reading/watching list so that you arrive at the class ready to dive deep.

What to expect:

  • Narrative forms: For instance; alternative narration styles, letter writing, structure, explore various storytelling modes and narrative steering techniques.
  • Explore genre-specific ways of pushing the story forward and editing.
  • World building & scene painting
  • Make clear and true to genre characters, and provide them with style-specific wants, choices and obstacles.
  • Establish ways to succinctly communicate your ‘in world’ choices using characteristics, discuss how to disentangle troublesome stereotypes from useful character types.
  • Form specific lexicon and accents
  • Cinematography and theatrical staging
