Hello Creative Cats!

We made it through a wet and blustery spring and are hitting summer with factor 30 in our back pockets, as we can dream! As we dream big for summer, here’s what we’ve had going on and what’s in store from Maydays HQ.

As is the tradition with our summer schedule, we slim things down a little in what’s on offer in our courses and drop-ins, as the MDs crew head out to perform in festivals and enjoy the summer months for a little bit of R&R.

Our online musical drop-ins have moved to the first Sunday of the month until autumn, so you can join us on 5th June, 3rd July and 7th August from 6-8 pm BST. On these dates, if you’re in Brighton, then you lucky things can join us for a double whammy musical joyride, as we keep our in-person musical improv drop-ins running on the first Sunday of the month from 11am-1pm at Open Space Studios in Hove.

Our in-real-life Brighton June courses have just kicked off for 6 weeks, and our summer and autumn programmes will be with you very soon! Our weekly improv comedy drop-in continues to be held every Thursday from 7-9 pm at BHASVIC in Brighton.

For our Online community, we are delighted to announce a 6-week course from one of our new Maydays, the fabulous Jon Nguyen will be hosting The Joy of Online Shortform from 22nd June, 6-8 pm BST.

We had two cracking shows during the Brighton Fringe – if you joined us in the audience, thank you! We hope you enjoyed Happily Never After and The Fringe Show as much as we did! You can catch us back at the Komedia on Friday 17th June for Confessions, where we turn your secrets and lies into improvised comedy gold. Joining us on the night are our fabulous friends, Tiny Dynamite, performing their Brighton Fringe smash, Yes-Anderson, so if you missed it at the fringe, you’re in luck as they’ll be rocking the first half of Friday night for us!

By far our most exciting news is another new Maydays member. Please extend your warm welcome to the fabulous Juwel Haque! We’ve worked with Juwel since the pandemic and were delighted to have him join us at our 13th Annual Improv Retreat in October 2021 as one of our guest teachers. You’ll know him, you’ve been taught by him, you’ll have seen him in shows and now he’s part of the Maydays family. Welcome aboard Juwel!

As we warmly welcome new folk, we also sadly have to say goodbye. So it is with much love and warmth, that we say goodbye to the amazing and incomparable Katy Schutte and Chris Mead. Katy will be a guest teacher at our 2022 retreat and we hope to be able to play with Chris lots in the future too. We encourage you to keep up to date with both Katy and Chris, as they have tons of shows, workshops and creative endeavours coming up. You can subscribe to Katy’s newsletter here, and keep up with Chris here.

We’re inching nearer to Retreat time and with over 170 of you who have popped yourself on the waiting list, this will be a sell-out first-come-first-served approach, with only 80 places available. We’re so close to releasing the booking link, so if you’ve not yet, then do pop yourself on the waiting list here to register your interest, as you’ll get an extra 48-hours before we release it to the general public to snag your place fastest finger first!

Wishing you all lots of sunshine and smiles this summer,

Love The Maydays x
