Business Improv courses in the UK

A white image of the UK with glowing white dust surrounding it

The UK is experiencing an exciting groundswell of Improv from the West End to the Conference Halls and Meeting Rooms of Businesses.  We are proud to have been performing and providing training in Improv for 15 years and consider The Maydays to be one of the flag bearers for Improv in the UK and all the benefits it can bring both personally and professionally.  The UK Improv scene is now defining itself separately from the USA and the rest of Europe as a world leader and innovator in the field.  If you live or work in the UK, or fancy coming over for a visit then make sure you take advantage of the world class Improv Training that is available throughout the UK alongside your meetings, conferences and events.

Why Improv in the UK?

a traditional theatre stage

There are many peculiarities to every culture across the globe, and the one we are most comfortable and familiar with is the culture of the UK.  In business, the UK is highly respected for it’s integrity, innovation and global reach.  We are experts in people, and particularly people from the UK, from the quietest introvert to the most outspoken extrovert, we have developed ways of encouraging trust, listening and respect all while laughing and playing – activities that are often institutionally frowned upon even now in the UK.  By taking Improv training in the UK, you have access to all our specific cultural values and awareness to really motivate your team, inspire your leaders and drive innovation in the UK.

The Maydays Business Improv Courses available in the UK

We provide a wide range of courses from our Studio in Brighton, or if you fancy another location in our city just let us know.  Here are the courses to choose from.

Dart board with a dart stuck in the bulls-eye

We are not experts in how to run your business.  We are experts in people.  Working on your soft skills is often neglected and can be hard to find the right training for.  These are the skills that will make you and your people stand out from the crowd.  Improv Training provides a rich environment to develop your communication skills as a whole.  Find out more about Improv Courses for Soft Skills Training here.

Pitching requires individuals to be confident and believable, but also relies on a strong team to rely on and act as a unit when things don’t go as expected.  Improv Training allows you to develop your own communication and presentation skills, while letting you work as a team to practise when to lead and when to follow, when to say ‘yes and’ or ‘yes but’ or even ‘no’!  Find out more about Improv Courses for Pitches and Presentations here.

A flexible man doing the bridge pose

People go to the gym, do yoga and exercise as part of their daily lives.  Well it’s hardly news that we need to keep our brains active and challenged to stay healthy also.  Improv training really can reach places that traditional training formats cannot touch.  It is exciting and new every time, it encourages you to step forward out of your comfort zone and rewards you with affirmation, applause and a feeling of genuine achievement.  Find out more about Improv Courses for Flexibility and Agility here…

A circle of hands and feet from above

It is our ability to work well with other people that makes us a valuable team member.  Improv Training uses a live, experiential environment to understand what is really happening in a group, rather than a theory based traditional chalk and talk lecture.  Then we can respond to the needs of each group in the moment. Three people chatting at a restaurant table

When do we really find out something new about someone?  When we watch them deal with an unfamiliar situation.  When I see a speaker delivering a perfect script I can’t help feeling a little bit cheated and unengaged.  If however, they drop the mic, lose their place or get heckled then suddenly I am attentive to how they will respond.  Did they stay calm? Did they get flustered and look around for someone to help?  Practise being the person who smiles, breathes and then reconnects to their audience at these moments. The pressures of being a leader allow you little time to work on the skills that got you there in the first place.  Ignore soft skills and your ability to communicate at your peril as new habits, patterns and errors of thinking will always creep in and start to dilute your power and productivity.  Improv Training is a refresh button for your working practises.  It will allow you to see yourself and your associates in a new light and with a newfound respect. A woman's face in front of a spiral pattern

It is important for us to get a new perspective on our lives from time to time.  This can be increasingly hard to do as we gather experiences and mature.  Improv Training provides a fresh way to look at ourselves and our behavioural patterns.  The way we treat other people and the way we expect to be treated ourselves all come under scrutiny when we are improvising, and it gives us the chance to notice, and change ingrained behaviours.  Find out more about Improv Training for Self-Awareness and Emotional Intelligence here…

Mindfulness is often perceived as akin to a meditative state.  That is a wonderful thing if you have the time and devotion it deserves, but most of our lives are spent in a world of frantic communication and uncertainty. Improvisation demands active mindfulness. It is lively, highly experiential and a very effective tool for raising awareness of yourself and the world around you, allowing you to stay calm in your work and your life.  Find out more about Improv Training for Minfulness and Being Present  here…

A group of business people looking at a laptop screen

Wherever and whatever our working lives take us, it can be hard to stay focussed and engaged, especially if we sit in the same place with the same people every day.  Improv Training can come in and re-energise your opinion of yourself, and of those around you.  Play, laugh, learn, make mistakes and learn not to care so that when it does matter, you are alert, responsive and engaged.  Sometimes we all need a little help to feel good about where we are, who we work with and what we do. A great re-energiser which is full of positivity and energy.  Find out more about Improv Training for Engagement at Work here…

There will always be aspects of our work that we find difficult, frustrating or dull.  Generally it is the people around us, and our relationships with those people that keep things upbeat and fresh every day.  Improv Training can work for your own positivity and self-esteem as well as working on your interaction with a group. A tandem skydive with the plane in the background

You have done abseiling, charity freefalls, formula 1 pit experiences and assault courses.  What could you possibly do to challenge and stretch your team in a new and exciting way?  Singing.  Yup, singing in front of your colleagues.  It may sound terrifying but that is your golden opportunity to do something that scares you and emerge more resilient and proud.  This course takes a group of people very gently through some musical improv exercises and is guaranteed to make you leave the room humming to yourself.   A high challenge course which stretches comfort zones to the maximum but without the need to drag your body through a physical assault course. A light bulb with blackboard lines and circles coming out behind

We can frequently feel like we’re not achieving our full creative potential.  We all have the ability, but it can simply get lost it in the pressures of the modern world. We strip away the inner critic, create a safe space, and allow your inner innovator to spring forward. More…
